This trip has been 16 years in the making. I first learned
of Oktoberfest back in 1992 when I was a taking a German class in high
school. We learned a little about it and I believe we even got extra credit
for going to a local celebration.
In 2001 I planned my first trip to Germany with
my buddy Elliott. I got my passport and picked up a few books, but nothing
came of it. We waited too long to plan and book and it fell through. We tried
again in 2002, but it was more of the same. In 2007 my buddy Robb tried to
weasel in a business trip to Munich during Oktoberfest, but his company
scheduled it for August, I came out to join him for part of his visit and at
least saw Munich
After 16 years of wanting to do this and 3 trips falling
through, I am finally getting my Oktoberfest trip. It has loosely been in the
works since the first of the year when I started talking about it with a
couple guys at work, and then one of my pool buddies heard me talking about
the trip decided to join us.
